2010 Chehelem Gruner Veltliner
Ribbon Ridge, Oregon
ABOUT
Chehelem (chuh-HAY-lum)may not sound Austrian, our table often carries an Austrian slant, with their exquisite whites-Riesling and Gruner Veltliner. We like to grow what we drink. We like to experiment and like to push the envelop.
TASTING
Fruity and spicy components combine with ripe peach, stone, white flower, licorice, white pepper aromas and flavors, with great texture and weight ending in a ripe white fruit finish. The third vintage bottling of Gruner. This wine is ready for food.
2004 Dreamer Syrah
About
This is the first collaboration from Matt Stuhl and Morgan Plant to create a signature Americano wine rooted in great tradition of lively style syrah. The wine started off warm and rich with a heavy finish of tobacco and leather around 2007 but now has fully matured to a well-balanced black fruit-forward elegance that lingers lazily on the tongue.
Vineyard
Las Madres Vineyards is located in the Carneros region of Sonoma County near the famed Hudson vineyard (Kistler, Arietta/Kongsgaard, and Helen Turley Marcassin) and is perfectly situated for cool climate Syrah. Planted with east-west facing rows and on a hillside with Clone 300 on the top and Clone 174 planted below, this vineyard exhibits style and structure similar to that of the Northern Rhone region.
Fantinel Prosecco N/V
About
This prosecco has a beautiful straw yellow color accompanied by a fruity bouquet with hints of golden apples. It has a great aromatic taste which fills the mouth with flavors of both fruit and minerality.
Fantinel is incredibly well respected and perfect for drinking any time. We also made a holiday cocktail using it that is delicious and refreshing that just includes a little Veev acai berry liquor and fresh lemon juice.
The Italians use prosecco also in a modern classic cocktail that I enjoy every time I’m in Verona called the "Spritz". Simple recipe of 1 part Aperol, 3 parts prosecco, ice and lemon twist; perfection after a day of wine tasting.
2007 Praxis Lagrein
About
Pronounced Lah-GRAYHN or Lah-GRINE, this cool climate red varietal is a 300 year-old cross between Teroldego and Pinot Noir. The Alto Adige is also the original home for Gewurztraminer. In the spirit of Praxis where Bill gets to play a little with winemaking, we decided to make our own and found a vineyard of California Lagrein on the Central Coast.
Tasting
The wine is deep red with dark purple hues and has the body of a Merlot. There are roses and violets on the nose, while flavors of rich, ripe cherries and blueberries are accented by nuances of vanilla and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a silky mouth feel, the wine is ready to drink now.
