By Riley Manlapaz • 7x7

5 June 2011One of our most exciting and rewarding readers' contests this year determined San Francisco's next culinary star. After thousands of votes were cast in two rounds of voting, Kory Stewart—the young chef of Americano Restaurant & Bar at Hotel Vitale—was chosen as the brightest new talent on our city's much-ballyhooed food scene.

13 March 2011Kory, again to my surprise, brought them out for me to try, not expecting that I would fire up my Flip Video Camera to make the vlog, but I figured why waste an opportunity to showcase a master chef at his best.

Top‐notch Italian: Americano Restaurant in San Francisco
By Amy Sherman • Oyster.com

26 August 2010I’ve eaten at Americano three times in the past couple of months, and each time it was better than the last. Located on the ground floor of the Hotel Vitale, it’s main architectural feature is a large patio that runs the length of the restaurant and faces the bay. With heat lamps, plenty of tables, chairs and even couches, it’s one of my favorite outdoor dining spaces in San Francisco (Foreign Cinema is the other).

19 August 2010On a recent trip to San Francisco, I stayed at Hotel Vitale, which I’ve decided may be the most perfect hotel in the city. Its location is dangerously convenient to the artisan awesomeness of the Ferry Building Marketplace—just across the street. Still, I saved room for chef Kory Stewart’s stellar food at the hotel restaurant, Americano.

1 August 2010San Francisco may not have the city beat of New York City or the glamour of Los Angeles, but it shines on with its down-to-earth charm, good food and proximity to Napa Valley.

14 July 2010But weather isn’t the only thing that changes with seasons at the award-winning Americano. Inspired by the proximity to the renowned Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market, the restaurant’s newly appointed Chef Kory Stewart has purposefully handcrafted new lunch and dinner menus with only the best and freshest local ingredients in mind.

1 June 2010Back on the ground floor Hotel Vitale houses the Americano Restaurant, an authentic and robust Italian restaurant popular among hotel guests and San Francisco natives alike. The Americano's artful decor continues the use of rich hardwoods coupled with elegant arches. Beautiful and dramatic portraits are lofted into the ceiling and showcased with soft intimate lighting.

1 June 2010Between chilly waves of San Francisco fog come those coveted hours of sunny summer happiness. These interludes are best enjoyed in shorts and sandals while nursing a cool beer, a cocktail, or a glass of rosé.

Americano's Civilized Bar Food

27 May 2010In the five years since it opened, Americano has steadily improved. In February, opening chef Paul Arenstam left and executive sous chef Kory Stewart took over. While the food has a similar sensibility, there have been some positive changes since I updated the place three years ago.

Hotels Make Sure These Souvenirs Don't Spoil

12 March 2010When it came to food tourism, it used to be that the staff at a good Bay Area hotel woud have to know only which restaurants to recommend and perhaps how to ship a case of wine. But a new wave of culinary tourists who like to play their vacations around sourcing food and meeting farmers has changed the game.
